2-day classic colca canyon experience

As the second biggest canyon in the world, twice as deep as the Grand Canyon, this is an unmissable destination while travelling in south Peru.

The trip begins in Arequipa, from where you'll pass through picturesque towns on your journey north-west towards the canyon, visiting trout farms and observing Andean flamingoes in the lagoons along the way.

At the canyon you'll take in the incredible views, visit traditional villages, hot springs, and take a hike to Cruz del Condor, where with luck you'll get to see condors gliding on the thermals of the huge mountain surroundings.

This trip includes an English-speaking guide and 2 nights with breakfast in Hotel Mamayacchi in the village of Chivay.

The tour ends back in Arequipa, where you'll continue your Peruvian adventure.

Itinerary:

Day 1

7.30am pick-up from Arequipa

4 hour bus journey through Colca Canyon

Visit to National Reserve of Aguada Blanca and Salinas to observe volcanoes

Visit to National Reserve of “Pampa Cañahuas to observe vicuñas

Visit to Andean community of Pata Wasi

Stops at Tocra and Pata Pampi viewing points

Arrival in town of Chivay for lunch and rest

30-minute walk to bathe in hot springs

Return to hotel Mamayacchiin Chivay for dinner and sleep

Day 2

Breakfast in hotel

Trip to Cruz del Condor to observe condors

1 hour walk through canyon

Visit to village of Pinchollo

Visits to Antahuilque and Choquetico viewpoints

Visits to villages of Maca and Yanque

Lunch in Chivay

Return to Arequipa (approx 5pm arrival)
