Puerto Maldonado is known as Peru’s capital of biodiversity, there are few places in the world with such a magical combination of vibrant forests, winding rivers and animal species.
On this trip you'll explore the jungle by boat and on various treks, along the way you'll visit Monkey Island where we you'll discover many different monkey species, a parrot clay lick where you'll observe various parrot species, and Sandoval Lake deep in the rain forest where, as well as a huge variety of birds and monkeys, it's possible to spot giant river otters, caimans, anacondas, and even the elusive jaguar. An expert guide will be on hand the entire time to help you spot any wildlife you encounter. You'll also visit the native community of Palma Real at Gamitada island, where you'll be introduced to their their language, their customs, their garments and their dances.
Your accommodation will be the Cortes Maltes Lodge on the banks of the Madre de Dios River, a complex which covers 60 hectares of protected rainforest. You'll stay in your own bungalow with a private bathroom with hot water, electricity, excellent bedding, as well as a deck with hammocks. Also on site are a swimming pool, a restaurant, and an observation deck and bar overlooking the river. What better way to relax after a day's trekking than to watch the jungle sunset from your hammock or stare up at the Amazonian night sky from the pool?

Reception at Puerto Maldonado airport
Visit to Puerto Maldonado town.
40 minute boat journey along Madre de Dios River
Arrival at Corto Maltes Amazonia Lodge
Lunch and welcome cocktail
Free time at lodge
3:30pm 3-hour trek to lookout to observe birds and sunset
Return to lodge
7:00pm nightly boat trip to spot caiman
8:00pm dinner and relaxation time
Day 2
5.30am 20 minute trek to parrot clay lick
8:00am breakfast and free time to explore Corto Maltes gardens
10:30am boat trip to Monkey Island
5km jungle trek to Sandoval Lake
Observe sunset from canoe
Return to lodge for 8:00pm dinner and relaxation
Day 3
8am breakfast and free time
10am 1.5 hour boat journey to Gamatida Island and Palma Real community
1pm boat journey around island
Visit to local farm
