4-day manu cultural zone adventure

This 3-day trip will take you from Cusco, through the tropical foothills of the Andes, and onwards into Manu National Park deep in the Amazon Jungle.

Manu National Park is a protected area of the Peruvian rainforest rich in biodiversity. You'll begin your journey there with a spectacular bus ride downwards through the cloud forests of the eastern slopes of the Andes, where you'll stop to search for some of the local wildlife, such as quetzals, tucanets, hummingbirds, and woolly monkeys, and spend the night in Bamboo Lodge. The next day, you'll continue your journey into the Amazon Basin itself, where you'll travel by boat along the Alto Madre de Dios River to the Rio de Oro Lodge. From here, you'll take treks through the jungle in search of more wildlife, explore the Machuwasi Lake by raft, take a night trek to look for caiman, and visit a parrot clay lick to observe an array of parrot species. As well as this, you'll have the chance to go fishing or to swim in the Alto Madre de Dios River. The whole way you'll be accompanied by a professional nature guide who'll educate you on any wildlife you encounter.

Itinerary:

Day 1

Morning pick-up from Cusco

8 hour bus journey down eastern slopes of Andes

Stop at Ninamarca pre-Inca cemetery

Stop at colonial village of Paucartambo

Cloud forest nature walk

Afternoon arrival in Bamboo Lodge (double room and private bathroom)

Dinner and briefing on jungle trip

Day 2

Breakfast

Bus journey to port of Atalaya

Walk to observe birds and visit orchid garden

Boat journey from Atalaya along Alto Madre de Dios River to Rio de Oro Lodge

Jungle trek

Visit to Machuwasi Lake

Evening caimen spotting/night jungle trek

Night at Rio de Oro Lodge (double room and private bathroom)

Day 3

Dawn boat journey to parrot clay lick

Trek to jungle lookout point and to giant Ceiba tree

Fishing and bathing in river

Return to lodge

Night walk to see insects, frogs, and snakes

Day 4

Breakfast

Boat back to Atalaya

Bus back to Cusco (arrival around 6pm)
