This trip takes you far from civilisation and deep into a stunning protected swathe of Peru's Amazon rain-forest.
The trip begins in Cusco, from here we take a private bus through high mountain areas before beginning our descent of the eastern slopes of the Andes into the Amazon Basin. You'll enjoy spectacular views of the the mountains opening into enormous jungle valleys whilst feeling the air become more and more humid.
Once in the Amazon Basin, you'll travel deeper into the jungle by boat, and during your expedition here you'll get to experience the jungle by foot on various treks and by raft. Along the way you'll be accompanied by a professional nature guide to help you spot any wildlife you encounter, which could include capybara, various monkey species, caiman alligators, macaws, as well as a host of other exotic bird and insect species.

Day 1
Private bus from Cusco, with stops in Ninamarca and Paucartambo, to the Acjanaco Pass
In late afternoon we arrive at Bamboo Lodge where we spend the night

Day 2
Minibus to the port of Atalaya. 20 minute canoe journey down the Alto Madre de Dios River
Afternoon walk on the trails near Amazonia Lodge in search of monkeys and birds
Evening caiman spotting or night walk
Night stay at Amazonia Lodge

Day 3
Boat trip to the parrot clay lick to see parrots, parakeets and small macaws, including the Chestnut fronted Macaw and the rare Blue headed Macaw
Trail walk to see more animals and to climb 25 m observation tower
Fishing or bath in creek near the lodge
Optional night walk to see insects, frogs and snakes
Night stay at Amazonia Lodge

Day 4
In morning we explore jungle trails and observe hummingbirds
In the afternoon we continue by boat to Machuwasi Lake to observe the abundant birdlife and, with luck, capybaras
Evening walk to hopefully see the rare Night Monkey

Day 5
Boat back to Atalaya
Return trip through the cloud forest into the Andes, stopping whenever we spot animals
Arrive in Cusco around 6pm with transfer to your hotel
